Alternative Assets

Alternative assets is a broad term that refers to investments outside of the traditional public asset classes like stocks, bonds, and cash. Common alternative assets include private companies, infrastructure projects, real estate, natural resources, and other illiquid investments not listed on stock exchanges. The main benefit of investing in alternative assets is diversification, as they tend to behave differently than publicly traded securities and can provide returns less correlated to the broader financial markets. However, alternative assets tend to require long holding periods, as the investments are illiquid and cannot be quickly bought or sold.
